This practise-led design research investigates alternative pattern processes in one piece cutting for body swimwear in high stretch knit fabric. The research focuses on inclusive design practice to allow for a greater size diversity of individual body measures within designated sizing categorisations. New pattern cutting methods can be developed to enhance qualities of fit, comfort and movement facilitating less seaming as well as strategic positioning of seams and fabric grainlines corresponding to body movements to optimize areas of stability, light compression and stretch.

Technical design research comprised of draping, flat pattern, CLO fit testing, sampling processes and qualitative wear testing. A functional pattern design response to the performance of contoured stretch patterns for body cover swimwear shows enhanced wearer comfort and facilitates greater dimensional size changes while optimizing inclusive fashion design applications.
